1/31-2/4/11

This is makeup week and extra credit week. It is not required for students to complete an option if they have turned in 2 options. Some need to complete one or two options due to not having turned in the completed assignment. This will be for full credit. Students that want to increase their science average may complete an option for extra credit.

Option #1
Conduct research on genetic engineering. Read in text book p160-161. Write a ½ to 1 page paper citing at least two examples of genetic engineering.
Option #2
Research mutations. Read p. 136-137 in textbook. Write a ½ to l page describing some mutations in organisms.
Option#3
Make a model of the DNA in cells. This will be due Friday but will count for two week project.
Option #4
Describe co-dominance in inheritance. P. 123
Option#5
You are a newspaper reporter in the early 1900s. You want to interview Walter Sutton about his work with chromosomes.. Write 3 questions you would like to ask Sutton. See p. 126-127 in your textbook for information. Then, for each question, write answers that Sutton might have given.

Write a ½ page report on the inheritance of color blindness. p/ 149 in your textbook.
Option #7-#10 one page report
Research the genetic disorder, cystic fibrosis, giving the cause and characteristics, treatment. Some information on p.153.
Option #8
Research the genetic disorder, sickle-cell disease, giving the cause , characteristics, and treatment. Some information on p 152.
Option#9
Research the genetic disorder, hemophilia, giving how it played a part in the history of royalty , causes, treatment. P. 152 for starting information.

Research the cause and treatment of Down Syndrome. Some information on p. 152

weekly homework assigments for 1/17-21/11

Option #1
Write a 1 page report to find other insects that have close relationships with a particular family or species of plant, such as the monarch butterfly and the milkweed plant.
